We called him "Little Hal" in Texas ~ named after his grandfather Harold who, along with his grandmother Ann, were very proud of him. To his adoring great-grandmother Jane Knibbe Farris "Little Hal" was about as special a boy as one can get. He inspired her very life ~ as well as her writing, her painting, her stories. Once, after a walk together, she, then elderly and he yet but a boy, wrote the following, dedicating it to Hal:

With your moist hand in mine
I walk the last mile alone ~
In spirit, firm in the belief that
Life goes on through you my child.

How many generations removed are we?

Anyway, we have arrived at the same place
at the same time . . .

A child shall lead us they say
And we are now the same.

With stars in your eyes you forge
ahead
Knowing the winds of change will
blow on your generation also.

I think you sense this as you lead me
home ~
Self-imprisoned though I am.

Now the two again walk together ~ in Heaven as they once did on earth ~ greeted by a large family of loved ones who have passed before.

My sincerest sympathy to Rick, Kathryn and Kathi. ~ Aunt Jo Ann Farris Goodell, Austin, Texas.
