WARRENVILLE, S.C. - Mr. Freddie H. Gray, 81, of Warrenville, SC, beloved husband of Mrs. Demetra Verenes Gray, entered into rest on Monday, February 4th, 2013. Born in Aiken, SC and a lifelong resident of Warrenville, SC, he was a son of the late Oscar Coles and Irene Wheat Gray. A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He spent thirty-two months as a Prisoner of War. For his service to his country, he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Korean Service Medal w/2 Silver Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation. Following his return home from the war, he began a career with the E.I. DuPont Company where he was an E & I Mechanic, retiring after forty years of service. He was a member of Howlandville Baptist Church, the Aiken Bowling League, Star Lodge #99, A.F.M., D.A.V Post #43, American Legion Post #63, Scottish American Heritage Society of Augusta and the Korean War Branch. In addition to his wife and parents, family members include sons, Robert Bobby (Leda) Gray, Belvedere, SC and Steven Gray, Edgefield, SC; daughters, Peggy (Charles) Proveaux, Martinez, GA and Rebekah (Reid) Gray-Henderson, Evans, GA; step-sons, Chris (Carol) Verenes and Deno (Robin) Verenes, both of Aiken, SC; siblings, Irma Renew, Aiken, SC and Frances Whittle, Gloverville, SC; eighteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 8th, 2013, at 2 o clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC, with Pastor Lance Thomas and Dr. Ronald Hasty officiating. Interment will full military honors accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard and masonic rites accorded by the brethren of Star Lodge #99 will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC.
