EDGEFIELD, S.C. - Kenneth W. Wood Jr., loving husband of the late Alma (Pete) Hastings Wood, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home - Columbia Road Chapel with Rev. Phillip Howle officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Ceremonial Detachment of Ft. Gordon. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Wood III, Richard Wood, Karl Wood, Kenneth Wood IV, Richard Wood Jr. and David Kantner. Honorary pallbearers are Jeffrey White, Cody White, Chad Hewitt, Robert Wood and Michael Jeffers. Mr. Wood was born in Stamford, CT. in July 1928. He was the oldest son of Mr. Kenneth W. Wood Sr. and Florence M. Weaver Wood. He is predeceased by a brother; Richard A. Wood of Waterbury CT. Mr. Wood was enrolled in the US Army Signal Corp with 20 years of Military Service with distinction. His distinctions include the WW II OCC Medal (Germany), WW II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. Out of eight major battles in Korea, SSgt Wood participated in 5 of them. He was wounded by shrapnel during one battle in Korea and received the Purple Heart. Survivors include his brothers, Gerald C. Wood and wife Barbara, Stamford, CT; Donald E. Wood and wife Ella, Glendive, MT; Gary C. Wood and wife Shirley, Lake City, FL; Barry E. Wood and wife Debbie, Riverside, CT.; sisters; Teddi J. Wood DeLeo and husband Peter, Port St John, FL; Cynthia J. Wood Spiers, Port St John, FL. He is the beloved father of Joyce Fay Harvey and her husband Archie, Myrtle Beach, SC; Kenneth W. Wood III and wife Louise, Augusta, GA; Richard W. Wood Sr. and his wife Renita, Hephzibah, GA; Lynda McDaniel, Edgefield, SC and Karl Wood, Ennis, TX; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. While he will be deeply missed, his family is at peace knowing he is once again reunited with his beloved wife Alma (Pete).
