SWAINSBORO, Ga. - Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Donald Jordan Hooks, age 77, of Swainsboro, GA on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA following an extended illness of leukemia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 3:00 PM at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Lexsy, GA, with Elder Craig Lanier and L. Brinson Lanier officiating. Interment will be New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lexsy, GA with Elder Joe Nettles officiating and Sidney B. Shepherd speaking. The family will receive friends at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Lexsy, GA on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be his nephews: Dr. Vendie Hooks III, Jones Hooks, Jerry Hooks, Evans Hooks, Dr. Mack Bird, Dr. Terry Underwood, Al Mauldin and John Lovein. Mr. Hooks was a life-long resident of Emanuel County. He graduated from Swainsboro High School, Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College and the University of Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture, was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity-Alpha Eta Chapter. Mr. Hooks was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Lexsy, GA and served on the Board of Deacons. He was Co-Owner of Hooks Milling Company in Swainsboro for 45 years and Owner of Hooks Secure Storage in Swainsboro. Mr. Hooks was a member of Pineland Telephone Board of Directors in Metter, GA for 43 years and President of the Cooperative for 35 years. Mr. Hooks was active in community and agricultural affairs; he served on the Board of Directors for David Emanuel Academy for 17 years, Charter member of the Emanuel County Agri-Business Council, Member of the Emanuel County Young Farmers and Charter Member of the Swainsboro Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elder Vendie Hudson Hooks, Sr. and Fleetie Yeomans Hooks and brother, Vendie Hudson Hooks, Jr. Survivors include: his wife: Sylvia Corbitt Hooks of Swainsboro, GA; three daughters: Donna Hooks Turner (Mark Turner) of Evans, GA, Missy Hooks Sennowitz (Dr. Karl Sennowitz) of Athens, GA and Starr Hooks Horn (Dr. Thomas Horn) of Savannah, GA; one son: Donald Judd Hooks, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; three sisters: Celeste Hooks Reece of Memphis, TN, Marcile Hooks Bird of Metter, GA and Betty Hooks Underwood of Jasper, AL; one brother: Gerald Hooks of Swainsboro, GA; seven grandchildren: Stephen and Wesley Turner, Jordan, Anna and Lexi Sennowitz, Skye and Logan Horn; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
