FLORENCE, S.C. - Mr. Howard Pierce McNair, 73, passed away April 9, 2013, at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Mr. McNair was born December 31, 1939, in Thompson, Georgia, the son of Clem Dunbar and Alice Morris McNair. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Mr. McNair moved to Florence upon employment with the South Carolina Commission of Forestry in 1969. He served the state as a forester until his retirement. In 1978, Mr. McNair was named the Outstanding State Employee by the South Carolina State Employees Association. Mr. McNair was a devoted member of Central United Methodist Church where he served for many years as an usher and on the Camp Sexton Committee. He was also active in many of his children s activities including Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, Dixie Youth Baseball, and church basketball. He is survived by his wife, Anne Poston McNair; his children, Pierce (Laura) and Dan (Jennifer), both of Columbia, and Will (BeaJay) of Manning; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Mary Catherine, and Evans. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013, at Central United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff at McLeod Hospice House, Dr. Eric Rowson, and Dr. Roland Skinner. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P. O.
