SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Entered into rest July 5, 2013 at his residence in Sevierville, Tennessee, Jim (78) as he was known, considered Augusta his hometown. He attended and graduated from Boys Catholic High School, after which he joined the Marines and served in the Korean War. After completion of his service time, he attended Augusta College, where he was a member of the golf and basketball teams. After two years at Augusta College, he attended the University of Georgia, and graduated with a degree in Business. After graduation, Jim embarked on a successful life in sales, which took him to various locales throughout the country and beyond. An avid and talented golfer, Jim played many courses throughout the county, but always had a soft spot in his heart for the Augusta Municipal Golf Course, affectionately known as the Patch . Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Lynn Vowell, and a brother, William Bill Vowell. He is survived by three sons: Jimmy Vowell and wife Elayne, Billy Vowell and wife Angelique, Whitney Vowell and his wife Mia, as well as the mother of his children, Geraldine P. Vowell. Jim is also survived by four grandchildren: Matthew Vowell, Andrew Vowell, Taylor Vowell and Soleil Vowell, and his friend of many years, Kaye Petril. Graveside service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Ray Reynolds officiating. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Visitation will be at the Thomas L. King Funeral Home on Sunday, July 14, 2013 between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. Pallbearers: Bruce Thurmond, Gary Thurmond, Matthew Vowell, Taylor Vowell, Tommy King, Jr., and Brian Griffin.
