NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Funeral Services for Mr. Robert Gerald "Jerry" Croom, 78, of North Augusta, SC, who died August 11, 2013, will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Dr. Randy Cooper officiating. Interment in Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Croom was a native of Alford, Florida, having made North Augusta his home for the past 52 years. He was a US Air Force Veteran, a graduate of the University of Florida with an Industrial Engineering degree and retired from Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site with thirty eight years of service. Mr. Croom was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta where he had served in the Nursery and as a Sound Booth Operator. He was a member of the Hammond Hills Elementary School PTA group which installed the air conditioning system, served as a Board Member of the Hammond Hills Swim Club and had served several terms on the North Augusta Election Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission and the Heritage Council. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruth Cheeks Croom; a son and daughter- in-law, Robert and Donna Croom; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Karen and Donnie Bickley, North Augusta and Diane and Greg Burch, Cumming, Georgia; six grandchildren, Warren Croom, Jeff Bickley, Jason Bickley, Meredith Burch, Tyler Burch and Alli Burch; a sister, Mary Jo Gay, Panama City, Florida. Honorary Pallbearers will be Phil Dickert, Jerry Murphy, Tom Greene, Don Grogan, Jim Purcell, Buck Ellis and Paul Katonak. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8. The family expresses appreciation to the University Hospital ICU Staff and volunteers for the compassionate care for Mr. Croom and family.
