BARNWELL, S.C. - Edith Frances Sessions Mixon entered into eternal life on Saturday, August 31, 2013. She was born on November 24, 1916 in Soperton Georgia, the daughter of the late William Lawson Sessions and Annie Lenora Webster Sessions. She was a 1937 graduate of the University of Georgia and retired as a teacher with Barnwell School District 45. She also taught in Nahunta, Georgia, North Charleston SC and Lagrange College. She started the Physical Education program for women at Mercer University, Macon Georgia during World War II. She worked for the USO-YMCA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnwell, a Sunday school teacher, WMU president, and past regent of the General John Barnwell chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution with over 60 years membership. She was a woman of abiding faith and enduring love. She loved to read, travel and enjoyed her family. Surviving member of her family are sons, Ray B. (Janice) Mixon Jr. of Cayce SC., Robert W. Mixon of Barnwell SC and Carl F.(Sandra) Mixon of Martinez GA.; five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly fifty years, Ray B. Mixon Sr., Brother W. Wallace Sessions of Jekyll Island GA and sister, Mildred Sessions of Soperton GA., and a great granddaughter, Karys Mixon of Athens GA. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell Co. Memory Gardens Cemetery on Reynolds Rd. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services In Lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the Barnwell County Library.
