THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Hoyt Marion Higdon, 86, of Noble Street passed away September 12, 2013. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013 at Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, Georgia with Rev. Albert W. Huyck officiating. Hoyt was born in Warren County, Georgia on November 24th, 1926 to Hobert McKinley Higdon and Gertrude Dunn Higdon. Hoyt attended school in Thomson before going to work in the Brunswick Shipyards at the age of 17 after attaining his certified welder status. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 until his enlistment in the Army in 1945. Hoyt was a World War II Veteran serving with the occupational forces in France, Germany, and Belgium. After the war he served as Superintendent of the City of Washington Street Department for 28 years retiring in December of 1988. Hoyt was a member of First Baptist Church, Thomson where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of VFW Post 5899, a Past Master of Lafayette Masonic Lodge #23, and a Shriner. Hoyt was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Newell Tiller Higdon. He and Frances lived in Washington, Georgia for 42 years where they raise two sons; Duane and Danny Higdon. Hoyt is survived by his spouse, Lucille Perdue Higdon of Thomson, Georgia where they have lived since their marriage in 1998; sons, Hoyt Duane Higdon and wife, Connie, Danny Marion Higdon and wife, Felicia; granddaughters, Lacy Bennett, Alex Higdon, Michal Higdon, Kendall Higdon and great granddaughter, Emma Bennett. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30901. The family wishes to thank the staff of the nursing home for the excellent treatment and care that Mr. Higdon received during his stay. Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
