WADLEY, Ga. - Mr. Lynwood Eugene "Gene" Davis, age 83 of Highway 1 South, Wadley, died Monday, August 25, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, in the Louisville United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hibberts and Dr. Bill Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Hadden, Gee Bowles, Jared Stepp, Allen May, Samuel McNeely and Dalton Houston. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Joe Gay Barwick Sunday school Class. Mr. Gene was a native of Hopeful, GA but had lived in Wadley for many years. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church for over 30 years where he had numerous responsibilities. Gene was on the Board of Directors at Queensborough National Bank & Trust in Louisville for many years, a member of the Louisville Lions Club in which he helped get the building and grounds established, Louisville Kiwanis, a Mason and member of Stone Wall Lodge #98, F&AM, and a member of the Scottish Rite. Gene's passion and love was raising and training Tennessee Walking Horses. He was a member for many years of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association and the Georgia Walking Horse Association. He also had a love for raising and training his Setters & Pointer Bird dogs. He built Rivercrest Lodge and had it registered as a quail preserve so he could enjoy his dogs even more. Mr. Davis was an entrepreneur who started many businesses from the ground up: Davis McGraw Furniture and Jefferson County Finance in Louisville, Dixieland Financial Services in Sandersville, The Furniture Barn and East Georgia Financial Services in Wrightsville, Team Insurance in Millen and Swainsboro Financial Services in Swainsboro. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents Mac Clinton and Lilly Mae West Davis, grandson John Michael Chapman, sisters Grace Worsham, Myrtle Lindsey and Hazel Harrell, brothers Harmon Davis, Howard Davis and Edwin Davis and is survived by his wife Bonnie Davis of Wadley, children: Angela and Gary Jones of Athens, Andy and Penny McNeely of Louisville, Karol Davis and Steve Wyers of Louisville, Darryl Davis of Jacksonville, FL, Angie and Ray Houston of Dublin, Kim and Tony Stepp of Louisville, and Chris and Nancy Bishop of Charlotte, NC, and niece Susan and Mike Tillett of Louisville, 18 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
