Sandra Tho Obituary
Born in My Tho, Vietnam in 1937, Dr. Tho received her MD degree at the Saigon Medical School. She entered MCG in 1972 as the first exchange resident, under the American Medical Association's Medical Education Project in South Vietnam. She joined the faculty of MCG in 1983 and has made remarkable contributions to the reproductive sciences in the areas of teaching, research, and service for over 30 years.
Beloved by family, friends, and colleagues, Dr. Tho will be dearly missed for her kind and gentle disposition, appreciation for life, and love of learning.
Dr. Tho is preceded in death by her parents, Phung Van Tai and Vu Thi Ty, and her sister, Phung Thi Loi. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Boris Phung Van Ba and wife Kim Thanh; brother, Thomas Phung Vu An and wife Grace; sister, Phung Thi My and husband Duong Van Phuong; 11 nieces and nephews and extended family; close family friend, Mary Tuggle and husband John; and mentor Dr. Paul G. McDonough.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907.

I met Dr. Tho when the lawyer I worked for prepared her estate planning many years ago, and in that time, she was always so kind and always cheerful, and I never seen her that she didn't have a smile on her face. She was one of the best clients, we had back then. I am so sorry to learn of her passing and your family has my sincere condolences.

I thank God that I was privileged to work beside you in the Reproductive Endocrine Clinic Dr. Tho. You are one of the kindest and gentilest souls I have ever met. You will be missed by all of us at the Medical College of Georgia. What a legacy of excellence you have given the world. You could run circles around all of us! Tho was not just someone that I worked for weekly, she was a close family friend that I will always miss. She was humble, selfless, gentle, big-hearted, and a piece of my life that cannot be replaced. Unfortunately I was unable to attend her funeral service today. I want her family members and friends to know that I am truly sorry for their loss and that everyone affected by this tragedy is in my thoughts and prayers.

I was privileged to work with Dr. Tho for 2 years from 1979 to 1981. She was such a conscientious caregiver and a lovely soul. My prayers are with her family. I feel blessed to have known her.
