Donald J. Arimond Obituary
Arimond, Donald J. Age 87, of Rice Lake, WI died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, WI. He was born to John and Margaret (Hoffman) Arimond on November 1, 1926 in Aurora, IL. Donald played basketball for and graduated from the Marmion Military Academy in June 1944. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served two tours during World War II, on the USS Murray and USS Minotaur. Don received three medals for his service, and is listed in the National Archives as a "plank holder" for the USS Murray. Donald was married to Marion Enger on January 24, 1959 in Aurora, IL. In Aurora he worked at the City Hall and R&M Kaufman's. Donald moved to Wisconsin in 1974, worked for Farm and Fleet, Sykes Meat, Farmer's Store, Consumers Co-op and retired from Rainbow Home Center in 1986. Donald was an avid fisherman, and people person, loved the "Cubs" and college basketball. Shortly after retirement he was diagnosed with Alzheimers, battling the disease for almost 25 years, where he moved into Knapp Haven in 2001 and was lovingly cared for until his death. Donald Arimond is survived by a son, Dennis Wilkinson of Cameron, WI; daughter, Debra Bjugstad of Rice Lake, WI; 3 grandchildren, Lynn Wilkinson of Burnsville, MN, Peter (Anna) Wilkinson of Hinkley, IL and Bethany Bjugstad of Rice Lake, WI; 5 great-grandchildren, Brittany Metcalfe, Mariah Wilkinson, Jacob Wilkinson, Tyler Foster and Alyse Riewestahl; a great-great-grandson, Lincoln Lott; son-in-law, Paul Bjugstad; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wilkinson of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, Lenora (Walter) Weber of McFarland, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Arimond; his parents; brothers, Robert, Richard (Elaine) and Harold "Bud" Arimond; and 3 sisters, Hildegarde Schindlbeck, Patricia (Bill) Lilek and Marge (George) Schwerer; and a special aunt, Sarah "Sadie" Hoffman. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals, Fr. James Powers officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at Spooner, WI, where Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, WI would be appreciated.
