Raymond E. Drake Obituary
Drake, Raymond E. 87, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville. He was born December 27, 1925 to Fred and Rose (Robinson) Drake in Aurora, IL. He attended East Aurora Schools until he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII. He served a tour of duty aboard the USS Cowpens in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded thirteen battle stars. He was discharged from service in February 1946 and resumed his education at Chicago Technical College. He worked for Chicago Aurora Burlington Railroad as an Upholsterer for twenty years, also as a Sales and Service Manager for Simons Furniture, Caterpillar for fifteen years and retired from All Steel in 1990. He had a passion for sports. He played with the Aurora Clippers Football Team in 1946. He was President of the American Division of the Little League Boys Baseball from 1960 until 1972. He was a Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan as well as an avid bowler and golfer. Survivors include his two sons, John Drake of Hanover Park, IL, Donald Drake of Romeoville, IL; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Jarrod) Luker of North Aurora, IL, Kristin (Mark) Cox of Yorkville, IL, Laura Drake of Naperville, IL; two great-grandchildren, Callie Cox and Owen Luker; a sister, Helene Meilinger of Sandwich, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ersilia (Desmond) Drake; his parents; a brother, James "Jim" Drake and his close friend, Heidi Lord. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, Fr. Timothy R. Piasecki will officiate with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 12:00 p.m. at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora. 630-631-5500.
