Fischer, Carl David Jr.
68, of Phoenix passed away on January 19, 2013. He was born in Boston on October 17 1944 to Carl and Dorothy Fischer and was raised in Ossining, New York and Tucson, Arizona. After graduating from the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Science in 1966, David entered the Peace Corp, where he met his future wife, Martha J Krismer. They both served in Sierra Leone from 1966 to 1969, coming home to marry in Martha's hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio on August 24 1968. David received his PhD in chemistry from Ohio State University in 1974 and then moved to Phoenix to join his father's chemical distribution company. He started his own software company in 1983 and worked in the financial software industry until he retired at the end of 2012. Dave's passionate pursuit of his multiple interests led many to describe him as a renaissance man. He danced, taught tai chi, played steel pans, traveled the world, and was a gourmet cook and wine connoisseur. He was also a scout leader, vice-president and blogmaster of the National Space Society of Phoenix, treasurer for the Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix and an annual judge for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. He is survived by his wife Martha, sons Mark, Eric and Jeff, sisters Ann and Deborah, uncle Noel and aunt Linda, daughter-in-Angela and granddaughters Kirin and Darla Rose. David lived a full, rich life and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers please donate to heifer.org in David's memory.

Marty and family,
I send light and love to you all in support of Dave's passing. I will cherish the memory of meeting Dave and you Marty at a wine tasting event at your lovely home. The evening was fun filled with laughter and music. You were both so very welcoming and kind and as I thought that night, a perfect pair! Dave was a very special being as are you Marty. He is greatly missed.
Namaste,
Debbie Dillon

Dear Marty,
I just learned about Dave's accident. Please accept our condolences on his passing. We have such fond memories of spending time with the two of you on our trip to France. Also, we so much enjoyed your hospitality when you had our entire group to your home. Time goes by and our intentions seem to get past us, then life ends. We are so sorry to hear about your loss...we were so impressed with your kindness and positiveness throughout our entire trip. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you. God bless you.

My friend, Dave Fischer
I've known, admired and respected Dave for years but only recently have we “bonded” as close friends. I guess it began when I took his tai chi class last year. But even before that I knew he was an expert chef, gourmand and gardener. He was an accomplished steel drum player and committed fellow humanist.
Dave had filled in with our Wednesday bridge game and quickly became a permanent member. I had also asked Dave to join our tennis group, and, as promised, he joined the week after he retired. He turned out to be one of our stronger players and a pleasure to play with.
Dave contributed so much of his time and talent to our Humanist Community Center and HSGP. I shall leave it to others to describe his invaluable contributions to HSGP including his cooking up our Darwin Day feast. I was overwhelmed by his recent lecture about the space program. Dave was involved with scientific endeavors that I did not quite understand. Davve was special in so many ways. My heart goes out to his family and all those who knew and loved him. “When will come such another?” Hal Saferstein

Although I only knew Dave for a short time, he is and will always remain an important figure in my life. He helped me understand that I could do Tai Chi, an activity, that had eluded me. He was a great teacher whose enthusiasm and kindness touched me deeply. I will miss you, Dave.

I had the privilege of working with Dave over the last 8 months. His passion, dedication and good spirit were infectious. Seeing how excited he would get after solving a problem was a reminder of the joy that's within our reach, if we open our heart to it. I truly miss him.
