Roberta Snider Obituary

Snider, Roberta "Bobbie" Ann
age 92, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2012. She was born in 1920 to Robert & Minnie Gorsline in Michigan and was the third of seven children. She met and married her husband, Everett, in 1942 and moved to Phoenix in 1953. They were married for 68 years when he preceded her in death in 2011. She is survived by son Gary and wife Dale, daughters Jean and husband Jack Johns, Sandy and husband Rich Mettille, Dale (Buttons) and husband Tom Carioto, grandchildren Jennifer Frandsen, Johl Johns, Micah Carioto, Tarena Beckham, Aaron Carioto, and Lindsay Snider, 15 great-grandchildren and her "family of her heart," Ann Morris and her 3 sons. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Coppins, and brother, Charles Gorsline, both of Michigan. She was preceded in death by a 7th grandchild, Jeff Johns. Besides being an exceptional wife and mother, she volunteered her time to Christmas in April home refurbishment, was a Wickenburg AARP officer, crocheted baby hats & booties for the needy, and was a bookkeeper. Her favorite pastime was the many vacations she took with family. She taught us the greatest gift, the gift of love. As one of her granddaughters said, "We will miss the way she would cup our face with her super-soft wrinkly hands and give us the littlest of kisses. Private family services will be held at the VA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it was Bobbie's wish that donations be made to Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired at 3100 E. Roosevelt St., Phx., AZ 85008, or to Hospice of Arizona Foundation, 19820 N. 7th Ave., Suite 130, Phx., AZ 85027.

I was given the jackpot of all gifts in life by getting "loved" into this extraordinary family by this incredible woman when I was 1 year old. The love and care she showered on me throughout my life made all the difference in itself, but by treating me as her own, she gave me everything that I could not have imagined living without in the sweetest, most wonderful relationships! The friendship that her and my mom shared was the greatest example of a true bond, and one that has shaped every part of my life. Bobbie always showed true grace and class in the way she did life, and I am so grateful for the examples she displayed of selfless care and love. I could never thank her enough for everything she did for me, so all I can do is continue to love and miss her with all my heart, until she gives me the warmest of hugs and the sweetest little kisses when she greets me (with my mom I'm sure by her side) in eternity!

This was the Facebook entry I wrote the day she passed:
"Today the world said goodbye to one of the most amazing women I have ever known-my Grandma.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. I will always cherish the memories I had with her and the way she loved. She loved so greatly a
nd made everyone feel like they were a part of our family!
I will always miss the way she would cup your face with her super soft, wrinkly hands and give you the littlest of kisses. Or the adorable gifts she would make for all of us...even booties for Tim! =)
She was the best grandma ever.
I am so thankful that after our mission trip to Mexico this last Spring, that we were able to drive through Arizona and visit her and my family. I'll always remember the last moment of seeing her and giggling with her over the Peeps candy my Aunt had given her before I said goodbye.
The world will never be the same because of the love of this one very special woman."

Dear Buttons and Tom--I am so sorry and I know she will be greatly missed by all. Her legacy continues because she, along with your father, raised such kind and compassionate children. When I moved in across the street from you in Phoenix, your family embraced us so warmly and we shared so many wonderful times. I will always remember the trips north to old Arizona your parents took us on: Jerome, Gilbert, the Grand Canyon...such wonderful memories. Love-Elaine

Much love and light to all of you. So very sorry to hear the news. I love her cookies the most and will never forget the day she rescued me from heat stroke. How she built the pull out hamper in the hall bath or used carpet samples to create wall to wall carpeting (it was so cool!) in Buttons' room. I loved her smiles and warm laughter and she never made a person feel unwelcome (even if we had been swimming in the irrigation or tromping through the flood waters.) xoxoxoxox What a wonderful mom to have in the neighborhood growing up. God has one more golden angel to help him keep us all safe. With true sympathy, The Boss Family

She was a sweet lady and had such a beautiful heart and a smile that lit up the room...all traits she passed to her children. Such sad news and although the loss is difficult, she is at peace. I love you guys and will keep you all in my prayers.

Although it has been many years when I last met Mrs. Snider, I have always remembered her sweetness and strength as a mother of one of my very good friends.
