Lerner, Helen Rose
November 20, 1917-February 20, 2014. Helen Rose Lerner, born in Dumont, Iowa, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2014, while in the care of the Hospice of the Valley, Gardiner Home. Helen was a remarkable and strong woman of great dignity. When she married her love, John, in 1939, she began living her dream. Helen wanted to travel the world, live adventures in new places, always learning new things. Living in Hawaii, Helen began painting, discovering her passion for art, while working as a reporter for the local newspaper, her all-time favorite job. In Spain, she fell in love with the world of antiquities and antiques. She took classes in archeology and joined a couple of digs. In England, she indulged her love of history. Her favorite class was the History of London for cabdrivers where she walked the streets with future cabdrivers and a historian. With a keen sense of direction, she became a fount of knowledge and a great tour guide of London. Always a passionate believer in civic duty, Helen poured her prodigious organizational skills and energy into volunteerism in retirement in Sun City. Helen volunteered for 20 years at Recording for the Blind, the Sun City Library, and the Sun City Art Museum. Helen lived the end of her life as a part of the lovely Stratford Assisted Living community. Helen was a voracious reader, a practiced and able conversationalist, a formidable bridge player, and a keen observer of human behavior. She had a wonderful, rich life and to the end she saw herself as very blessed. Helen is survived by her brother Gerald (Dorothea) in Minneapolis, her son David in Phoenix, her daughter Karen (Jeff) in Oregon, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Hattie, and her older sisters, Ruth and Sylvia. Services are private

A wonderful life indeed, still it's difficult to lose those we love. My sympathy goes out to Helen's family, and my you find comfort from Our Heavenly Father who is the hearer of our prayers to him. Psalms 65:2
