Andre Perez Obituary

Perez, Andre Algarin (Andy) III

He attended Glendale Community College, Glendale, AZ, and had completed a majority of the general requirements for his Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of Engineering and a minor in Nutrition. Andre was in the Navy, stationed at San Diego, CA, aboard the USS Constellation (an aircraft carrier) as a team member of the VFA-137 F/A-18 Hornet squadron, from 1994 to 1997. Shortly after leaving the Navy, Andy arrived in Tucson, AZ, to spend time with his mother and family. Andy became disenchanted with Tucson, and he settled in Phoenix, AZ, where he thrived. He worked numerous jobs as a carpenter, concrete finisher, and a superintendent while also attending college classes. He worked for the Haydon Building Corporation, PCL Civil Contractors, Mercy Construction, and ending with his employment at Kiewit Construction. He was a very outgoing, friendly, and loveable young man that made friends with numerous people that ended up staying his friend for either a short or long period of time. His hobbies included spending time with his friends, weight training, participating in strong man competitions in support of charities (Muscular Dystrophy), member of the North American Strongman, riding his quad with his girlfriend and friends, spending time with his two dogs he had rescued (Goldie and Jack), collecting Matchbox cars, traveling to new places, and just having a good time enjoying life to its fullest. Andy was a truly remarkable young man. He was not married and had no children to survive his death. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Ann Thomas, Lapeer, MI; sisters and their spouses: Stacy Lynn (Michael) Mulford, Lodi, NY; Loni Elizabeth Thomas, Tucson, AZ; brother Wayne R. Thomas Jr, Tucson, AZ; his grandfather Leonard Coon Sr, Rome, NY; uncles Leonard Coon Jr, Utica, NY; Frank Coon, Tampa, FL; Tracy Coon, Rome, NY; aunt Nancy (Gary) Konopka, Tampa, FL; great great grandmother Velma Maguire, Ovid, NY; a niece and nephew Corrine and Cort; and seventeen nieces and nephews, Ashley, Steven Jr, Melissa, Jacob, Joshua, Jason, Jennifer, Frank Smith, Scott, Chase, , Emma, Hannah, Jacob, Tyler, Vitoria, Logan, and Riley. He is also survived by his father, Andre Perez Jr, Candor, NY; grandmother, Carmen Perez, Lodi, NY; brothers Aaron Coleman, active duty as a US Marine stationed in VA; Philip Coleman; sister Kristin Coleman, Lodi, NY. He will be remembered by his close and dear friends Chelsea McGuire, Phoenix, AZ; Nat Lyons, Phoenix, AZ; William and Ashley Baker, Phoenix, AZ; Scott Johnson, Scotsdale, AZ; and Thomas Yoxall, Peoria, AZ; Bridget Moore and daughter Ciandara, Glendale, AZ; and his numerous friends from work and hobbies. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Esther Coon, and his aunt Linda Smothers. Andre worked to support the muscular dystrophy association and if any remembrances wish to be made, the family requests they be made to this very worthy cause in his name. His ashes will be kept with his mother for safekeeping and honor. There was a memorial picnic held for remembrance on August 9, 2009, to honor his long time and newly acquired friends and family in Phoenix, AZ. There will be another memorial held in Rome, NY, for the remainder of his family on August 22, 2009. Andre (Andy) will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. God's support, speed, and rest to him and his family.

Andre became a good friend to my husband Dennis while they worked together at Kiewit. The guys teased that they were like father and son! He came to our home a few times and instantly fit right in with our family. Dennis will miss going out on the quads with Andre and his great sense of humor. We were happy to be a part of his life even for a short time. Our condolences to his family.
