Funk, Alvin Dean "Pete"
Alvin Dean "Pete" Funk was born in Lane County, Kansas on January 22, 1935 on his dad, Dave Funk's birthday, which was also the day of the "big rabbit hunt" in Lane County. Pete went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He grew up in Alamota and Dighton, Kansas and was baptized in the United Methodist Church, Dighton, Kansas. He graduated from High School in Dighton, Kansas, and then joined the Army. Upon discharge from the Army, he worked in Engineering and Operations for AT&T for 44 years. He retired from AT&T in 1998 and became a certified home inspector and ran his own home inspection business until an accident forced closure. He and his wife retired to Surprise, Arizona. He was active in retirement holding as many as four jobs at any one time including almost nine years with Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church as Maintenance Engineer and Security. Pete also assisted his wife, Lynn, in her business by cleaning up computers donated for the Sun City West Veterans kids "Patriot Pen" and "Voice of Democracy" program; as well as creating CAT5 cables and installing them for several businesses in the area and many other jobs for her business. Pete is survived by his wife, Stephanie Lynn and his three daughters; Vicki Diane Ellis, Elyse Beth Risinger, and Gigi Cheri Akers. He is preceded in death by his father, Dave Funk; his mother, Anna Funk; his brothers Elton Funk and Melvin Funk; and his sister Laverne Funk Smith. Memorial Services and Interment will be held at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West Arizona on Saturday, June 22nd at 1pm in celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, Pete requested that donations may be made to Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, Arizona or to in Arizona.
