passed away peacefully, at age 58, on November 30, 2013 at his home in Scottsdale. David was born January 31, 1955, in Avon, Illinois to Jim and Aletha Nicholas. He married Janelle Burger on October 15, 1983 in Rock Island, Illinois. Dave graduated from Bushnell Prairie City High School and Western Illinois University, Macomb. He moved to Arizona in 1980, where he worked as a CPA and owned his own practice for 27 years. During his lifetime, Dave was a Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Pack #443, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the BPOE (Elks) Lodge #2154 in Payson, Arizona. He was also a member of the Scottsdale Darts Association, serving as treasurer for several years, and a volunteer chef for Stepping Stones of Hope (formerly Camp Paz). Dave was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending many of his weekends at the family cabin in Payson, which he designed and built with the help of family and friends. He was a season ticket holder for the Arizona Diamondbacks and attended every opening day game since their inauguration. Dave is survived by his beloved wife Janelle, son Brad (Maggie), daughter Elizabeth, brothers Jim (Carol), and Jerry (Lori), sisters Mary, Linda, and twin sister Debbie (Dennis), brother-in-law Ron, granddaughters Annie and Sophie, and numerous nieces and nephews (and yes, you were all his favorite!) He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Georgia, two nephews, one great nephew and two great nieces. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all. Funeral mass will be held Friday, December 6, 2013 at 9:30AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 S. Rural Road, Tempe. Burial to follow at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale. Memorial contributions can be made to the . Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
