Karl, Donald J.
88, of Tempe, AZ passed away peacefully on January 22, 2014. Don was born in Detroit MI in 1925 and moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1937. He served his country during WWII on the Navy vessel USS Irwin. In 1949 he married the love of his life, SuzAnn, and shortly after received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. He started working for the Federal Housing Administration (HUD) early in his career, which brought him from Grand Rapids to Chicago in 1964 and to Phoenix in 1970. He worked at HUD in Phoenix from 1970 until he retired 1982, when he was acting director. After retirement, he enjoyed summers on his boat in Couer d'Alene ID. He loved his family, fishing, sports, dancing and singing. He was the "life of the party" and everybody's friend. He will be missed by his wife of 64 years,
SuzAnn, his 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Private service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the ALS Assoc.
