Elizabeth Mooney Obituary

Mooney, Elizabeth "Betsy" Catherine
82, of Leisure World, AZ passed away peacefully on February 1, 2016. Betsy was born January 17, 1934 in Trenton, NJ to William and Elizabeth Johnston (Schwartz). She married John C. Mooney, Jr. (Jack) in 1951 and began a life as a mother and homemaker. The family resided in New Jersey and Ohio before retiring to Fountain Hills, Arizona in 1975. Betsy enjoyed volunteering at the Fountain Hills library, learning to make cactus jelly and other culinary experimentation while Jack played a bit of golf. Later in their retirement years, she and Jack operated the Rio Verde post office branch. The 1990 passing of Jack turned the page to a new chapter. Betsy discovered that camping in an RV was actually fun, learned to bowl and line dance and partook in many other new and exciting adventures with her beloved companion William Carpenter. She continued to operate the Rio Verde post office until William's passing, then retired to Leisure World in 1998. In Leisure World, she found many great friends while continuing to enjoy life. These were perhaps her happiest years as it was here that she found Lloyd Asp. Betsy and Lloyd spent much of their sunset years together, making several trips to Oregon, California and points unknown to explore and visit friends and family. Lloyd was a faithful and beloved presence in her life until her passing. In addition to Lloyd and all of her extended Leisure World family, Betsy is survived by her three sons: John C. Mooney III, Michael A. Mooney and Timothy P. Mooney; four grandchildren: Jennifer Jiminez (John), Kevin Mooney (John), Melinda Mooney (Michael) and Brendan Mooney (Michael); and two great grandchildren: Austin and Justine Jiminez. She also leaves behind her beloved daughters in-law Elizabeth (John) and Jennifer (Michael), a sister (Rosalinda Doyle of New Jersey) and several cousins, nieces and nephews in New Jersey.
