Adrian, Father Stephen J.
passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of Sunday, March 17th, 2013. Fr. Adrian was born on April 14, 1912 to Stephen and Elizabeth Adrian in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He is the beloved brother of +Anna Nagel, +Deacon Matt Adrian, +Sister Mary Adrienne Adrian, +Joseph Adrian, +Sister M. Lois Adrian and +Raymond Adrian. He received his education at St. Francis de Sales Grade School; Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary; the St. Paul Seminary for Philosophy and Theology and post graduate studies for Doctorate at the University of Minnesota. On June 3, 1939, he was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop John Gregory Murray at the St. Paul Cathedral in St. Paul, Minnesota and celebrated his first Mass at Saint Francis de Sales Church in St. Paul, Minnesota on Sunday, June 4, 1939. Fr. Adrian served 19 years in the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis; 19 years in the Diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota; 8 years in the Diocese of Superior, Wisconsin, and 28 years in the Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona. Over his 74 years as a Priest his assignments have included: Professor of Nazareth Hall and Chaplain in the United States Navy during World War II. He was also Pastor at: St. Mary of Marystown, Minnesota; Saint Mary of Bird Island, Minnesota; St. Mary of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; St. Peter of St. Peter, Minnesota; and was Associate Pastor at: St. Joseph of Osceola, Wisconsin and the last 28 years as Associate Pastor and retired Priest in residence here at St. Anne in Gilbert, Arizona. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne Roman Catholic Parish, 440 E. Elliot Road, Gilbert, AZ 85234. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Anne Roman Catholic Parish. Those interested in making donations can visit www.stanneaz.org. If you wish to donate flowers, they will be displayed during Thursday's viewing and Rosary service only. Due to Lent, they will not be displayed during the funeral Mass on Saturday. After the Thursday's viewing and Rosary, Queen of Heaven will take the flowers to be placed graveside for the private burial ceremony for family.
