Deery, Francis Earl "Pete" , Jr.
"Pete" was born in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1923 to Francis Earl Deery, Sr. and Mabel Michael Deery. He enlisted in the United States Navy
in 1942 and served in the South Pacific area for 2 ½ years during WWII
. Pete was honorably discharged as a First Class Petty Officer, (Aviation Machinist Mate) in 1948. He then worked at the U.S. Naval Air facility in Litchfield Park, Arizona until the base closed in 1962, at which time he transferred to Defense Contract Administration Services until his retirement in 1979. "Pete" married Bette Lou Prince in Long Beach, CA. on August 31, 1952. They had a very loving marriage for over 47 years when Bette passed away in January 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; his sisters, Jane, Mabel (Dolly); and his half-sister, Janet. "Pete" was active in serving his Lord; he was an elder along with other various offices in the church. He also served his community by being an active participant on the City of Goodyear Planning and Zoning Commission from 1958 until 2001. Pete was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer- he enjoyed the outdoors. He is survived by his daughter, Debra Ketcham and husband, Tom of Muskogee; his granddaughter, Jessica Lee Perkins and husband, Jeff; and his great grandson, Sloane, all of Norman, OK.; his 3 nephews and 4 nieces; along with a host of longtime friends. The family requests memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 830 Plaza Circle, Litchfield Park, AZ., 85340. The family would like to express a very special "Thank You" to the staff of Dogwood Creek, Broadway Manor, Hometown Hospice, and Dr. David Kyger for the care they gave Pete. Private family services will be at a later date at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chester Springs, PA. "Pete's" forefathers were among the founders of this church in 1771, one of the oldest Lutheran churches in the USA. "I've lived a lifetime for just this moment, when I cross that river, don't cry for me.
