Anderson, Gareth James "Andy"
87 of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on November 13, 2012. Born in Modesto, CA to parents, James and Dorthy Anderson. He served in WW II as a Staff Sergeant with the 274 Infantry. He was a disabled veteran who earned 2 Purple Hearts and a Silver Star with an oak leaf cluster. He graduated from Liberty High School in Brentwood, CA. After the war he went to Chico State University graduating and pursuing a career in education. He taught Social Sciences at Chico High School along with English to foreign born students at night school. He continued to teach in the Social Sciences when he came to Phoenix in 1959. He taught at Judson School in Scottsdale and then Paradise Valley High from 1963 to 1986. He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine R. Anderson; daughters Irene Grubbs (David), Cynthia Zimmerman (Constance Saville); sister Blanche Anderson Clark; nieces and nephews Bill Clark (Naomi), Susan Sullivan (Michael), and Frank Clark. Visitation will be 6 - 8 pm, Service at 7 pm on Sunday, November 18th at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St. Graveside service with Military Honors will be at 11 am, Monday, November 19th at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St. Please visit to submit online condolences.
