Hanson, Gordon
90, passed away on November 1, 2013. He leaves behind a loving family and many wonderful friends. He was born on January 30, 1923 in Tenstrike, Minnesota. He graduated from Kings Point Academy in Naval Sciences, received his Masters from the University of Minnesota, and earned his PhD from Penn State University in Agronomy. Gordon met his wife, Mary, in Sacaton, Arizona on the Pima Indian Reservation, where they both worked at the Experimental Station. Mary taught Gordon (aka Dr. Dirt) how to cross pollinate cotton. They married in 1953 and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June. He spent 30 years of his career working for Dow Chemical Company. His retirement years were spent in Rio Verde, Arizona enjoying golf, time with his children & grandchildren, woodworking, and playing bridge. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Clarence and Melvin, and many dear friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his 4 children and their spouses, Chris (Sunhee), Karin (Steve), Carl (Carol), and Kim (Kevin), as well as 6 grandchildren, Katie, Colin, Jeffrey, Jocelyn, Cori, & Amanda, 5 step-grandchildren, Lauren, Kevin, Meagan, Joona, & Changil, and 2 step-great grandchildren, Laci & Lynleigh. Gordon will be remembered for his quiet but kind, generous spirit, his selfless love for his family and friends, his love for golf with his buddies, and his talented woodworking that decorates many of our walls. He will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him. A service will be held for him at the Anglican Church of the Atonement in Fountain Hills, Arizona on Friday, November 8 at 2:30 pm.
