Casciotti, Guido "Gil"
96 of Mesa, AZ, passed away peacefully at the Springs in Mesa AZ on April 26, 2013, with Helena, his beloved wife of 71 years by his side. Guido was born March 31, 1917, the third of ten children born to Filippo Casciotti and Enesta DePetris, who had immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island. His birth town of Norwich, Pennsylvania was later absorbed into Allegheny National Forest. Gil was raised in Ithaca, NY, graduating from Ithaca HS, and briefly attending Cornell Ag School. Gil met and married Helena upon her graduation from Ithaca College. He proudly served his country in WWII
in the Pacific Theater and the occupation of Japan. He then attended Newark State Teacher's College through the GI bill, and completed his Master's in Industrial Arts from Trenton State Teacher's College in 1952. Gil taught Industrial Arts and Driver's Education at Somerville High School for 25 years before retiring to Mesa, AZ, dancing in the winter, and traveling during the summer with their trailer. Few National Parks and their trails went unexplored during his lengthy and joyful retirement. Always the teacher, Gil was ever ready to assist and instruct his friends in family in any conceivable project. His positive outlook and great sense of humor were inspirations for his three children, Linda Conklin of California, Janet Seabra of New Jersey, and Philip Casciotti of Maine, as well as his grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, and Allison Casciotti and Jeff and Erick Conklin, and two great-grandchildren Dylan and Ethan Conklin. He is also survived by his wife, Helena, a brother Philip, and a sister Irene. A memorial celebration is being planned at a treasured spot in the Superstition Mountains. Donations in Guido Casciotti's Memory can be made to The Springs, 6220 East Broadway Rd., Mesa, AZ.85206. Arrangements entrusted to Sonoran Skies Mortuary, Mesa, AZ
