Dr. Horace Kent passed away peacefully at home on Dec 23, 2013 He was a kind and gentle man who treated everyone with respect and politeness. He was born to Editha and Melvin Kent and raised in Mesa. He attended Duke University for both his undergraduate degree and medical school, graduating in 1956. His 2 year residency was completed in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Utah. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force as the head of the Endocrinology Department at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio until 1962. At that time, he settled and practiced in Mesa, later joining Casa Blanca Clinic and ended his career as their Medical Director in 1998. He maintained an active medical license to date. Horace was a member of the Duke Davison Club, the Duke Half Century Club and a senior Mesa Rotarian. In his retirement he enjoyed playing the piano, golfing, the company of his wife, Sandy, of 34 years and his family and friends. He left behind his wife Sandy, children Katherine (Cliff) Dahl, Lloyd (Sherie) Kent, Lisa (Stephan) Kindt, step-children Christopher (Myra) Bates, Susan (Theron) Barnes, predeceased Jennifer Bates, as well as numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and his sisters Marilyn (Charles) Clawson and Jayne Kempton. Private services were held. Contributions in lieu of flowers to Duke University School of Medicine would be appreciated.
