Imogene Talitha "Jean" Barnes

Barnes, Imogene "Jean" Talitha (Parker)
Jean Barnes was born July 14, 1926 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and remained a southern lady till her last breath. She passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the age of 86 at the Dobson Home Hospice in Chandler, Arizona after a 10 day stay. Her daughters and grandchildren were often by her side and a visit by her great grandchildren always elicited a big smile and a twinkle in her blue eyes. Jean was married in 1946 to another southerner-Charles "Charlie/Pete" Ray Barnes who had just returned from WWII POW camps in Japan. The Barnes and Parker families were long-time church friends in Chattanooga. After Pete graduated from Georgia Tech they made their home in Michigan and finally settled in Phoenix in 1959. Pete and Jean lived a full life with 48 years of marriage before Pete's death in 1995. Jean always took pleasure in the simple gifts of life - the hummingbird nest outside her kitchen window, the plants that volunteered in her garden, and sang "O Sole Mio" to make light of any childish tantrums. Her smile, support, and warmth will be missed by us all. Jean is survived by her remaining sister Phyllis Burzese and her family in Tennessee, her daughter Linda Barnes and her husband Bob VanDerWerf in Portland, Oregon, and family in the Phoenix area - daughters Leslie Barnes, Rita (Lawyer) Barnes, and June Barnes; grandchildren Ian Barnes, Nathan Lawyer, and Ruth (Lawyer) Noor and her husband Anwar Noor; and great grandchildren Alexander "AK" Noor, Aeros "ZZ" Noor, and Zenadine Noor. Private graveside services will be held.
