Garitson, James M.
went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 15, 2013. He was born on September 8, 1926 in Oxford Kansas to Carl James Garitson and Rose Angelica Salazar. The family moved to Springer, New Mexico when he was a small child. He graduated from Springer High School in 1944 and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He received his Masters Degree in Sociology and spent his career working for the Department of Corrections in the States of New Mexico and Arizona. His passion was his music. He played the saxophone in numerous bands throughout his life and composed music on his baby grand piano. He is survived by five children Maria Debra Decker of Prescott, AZ; Laura Cyd Veale of Glendale, AZ; Carl J. Garitson (Patricia) of Sedona, AZ, Leslie Jo Simmons (Rick) of Springer, New Mexico, and Philip Roy Garitson (Julie) of Peoria, Arizona. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Arrangements made by Advantage Crystal Rose Funeral Home with memorial services to be held Friday, January 25th at 10:30 a.m. at Phoenix Memorial Park, 220 W. Beardsley Rd. Phoenix, AZ. Interment to follow at the Veterans National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to the Cholla Middle School Music Department, 3120 W. Cholla Street, Phoenix, Arizona.
