Waterstrat John B.
91, of Scottsdale passed away peacefully November 8, 2013. Born February 27, 1922, John and his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred, moved to Arizona 29 years ago to retire and escape Midwest winters. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and a kind and generous person. He is survived by sons Daniel and James (wife Ida), daughter Karen (husband David), sisters Marcia and Nancy, granddaughters Alexa and Lauren, and great grandson Landon. John graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago and then served honorably from 1942-1945 with the U.S. Army including the Normandy Invasion and battles through France and Germany. He received the Purple Heart and later the Liberty Medal from the French government. After the war John went to work in the accounting department of the Chicago Tribune Newspaper and retired after 36 years. He was a cat and dog lover, having many over his lifetime including several taken in as strays. John was a regular contributor to animal and nature conservancy charities. John was a member of the Valley Presbyterian Church and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 5-8 pm, Sunday, November 17, at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E Indian School Road, Scottsdale. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, November 18th also at the mortuary followed by interment at Paradise Memorial Gardens, Scottsdale. A dinner reception will be held following the burial.
