Davis, John 'Jack' Weyman Jr.
John Weyman Davis, Jr. (Jack), 80, passed away from a stroke on February 13, 2014 in Phoenix, AZ. Jack was born in Athens, Georgia in 1933. He left us as he wished, surrounded by the love of his family. He graduated high school and enlisted in the Navy in 1951 from Stockton, CA where he attended the Naval Academy Prep School at Bainbridge for a year prior to entering the Naval Academy with the Class of 1957. Jack served a distinguished naval career as a fighter pilot and commanding officer. He served multiple tours of duty in the Vietnam War
while flying the F-8 Crusader and F-4 Phantom from aircraft carriers: USS LEXINGTON; USS HANCOCK; USS ENTERPRISE; and the USS RANGER. Jack concluded his last tour as commander of the "Black Knights" of VF-154 at NAS Miramar in San Diego where he fell in love and married the former Sarah Francis Jane. His final tour for the Navy was in Washington, D.C. as Director of Navy Liaison to the House of Representatives, Office of Legislative Affairs. Jack retired from the Navy in 1979 and worked for RCA/General Electric until retiring to Phoenix, AZ in 1990. He was on his high school and Naval Academy golf teams and a member at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA and Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix, AZ. Jack and Sarah were briefly partners in Real Estate when Jack then decided golf was much more to his liking! He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Weyman Davis, Sr.; mother, Christine (Snider) Lenahan and brother, David. He is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Sarah and five children: John Weyman Davis III (Jennifer), Christy Hobbs (Don), Casey Kigin (Joe), Jane Nappi (Steve) and Michele Diamond (Mark) as well as, fourteen grandchildren: Breannan, Dustin, Dylan, Sarah, Kathleen, Ashley, Davis, Delaney, Kelli, Miller, Nicole, Samantha, Melissa and Brayden; and three great-grandchildren: Taylar, Brody and Haley. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM March 8, 2014 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St. Phoenix, AZ 85020. A celebration of Jack's life will follow.
