Frerichs, John William
age 89, passed away March 15, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. John moved to Arizona from Hondo, Texas, with his parents and brother when he was two years old. He spent the next seventy years of his life in Arizona, primarily in Phoenix. He graduated from Prescott High School, attended college at the University of Arizona, finishing his schooling at Arizona State University
. John earned degrees in both business administration and education. He served in the United States Navy
and was stationed in San Diego, California. While in the Navy, he met his future wife, Helen D. White, who also was in the Navy. They were married in 1945 in San Diego and spent the next sixty years together. John was an educator his entire working career, having taught school and later becoming a principal in the Washington School District. Another of John's interests was cattle ranching. John, along with his parents, brother, sons and their families were in the ranching business. Cattle ranching was part of his family's heritage and still is today. The Frerichs family ranched in Hackberry and Flagstaff, Arizona and in D'Hanis, Texas. John and Helen also ran a boy's camp in the summer on the ranch in Flagstaff. In Arizona, John was a member and past president of the Sheriff's Mounted Posse of Maricopa County. In 1995, John and Helen moved to a ranch in D'Hanis, Texas to be closer to their son, daughter-in-law, and their grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Robert Paul; parents, Bill and Hazel Frerichs; and his great-granddaughter, Hazel Camille Anderson. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Wayne Frerichs (Judi); son, John M. Frerichs; son, William T. Frerichs (Judi); three grandchildren and families, Reed Frerichs (Desiree) of Palm Beach, Florida, Holly Messer (Jimmy) of Manhattan Beach, Ca., Heather Frerichs (Bryan Anderson) of Santa Cruz, Ca. and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial service Friday, March 22, 2013, 5:00 P.M. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1416 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas..
