Goehring, Luther W.
Luther W. Goehring was a senior-level healthcare professional with over thirty five years of experience. Mr. Goehring is a Life Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives having been awarded Life Membership recognizing his years of active participation as Regent in the State of Ohio and as Regent in the State of Arizona. From 1980 to 1995 Mr. Goehring served as the Group Vice President for Samaritan Health System (now Banner Health Corporation) of Phoenix, Arizona, a diversified healthcare corporation. This position included full responsibility for the management of Samaritan's regional facilities. The division operated by Mr. Goehring was composed of seven hospitals, four urgent care centers, three ambulatory care center, two multi-specialty physician groups, two skilled nursing facilities and one managed care plan in three different states. Prior to joining Samaritan Health System in 1980 he served as the Regional Vice President of the Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society; as the Director of Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio; and as the President/Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Goehring graduated from St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas with an Associate of Arts in Accounting and Business Administration. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Economics from Fort Hays (Kansas) State University and a Masters in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota
. Mr. Goehring served a well-decorated four years active duty in the U.S. Navy
and received a Presidential Unit Citation for service during combat while serving in Korea. In 1963 he received the Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award in Cleveland, Ohio and is listed in the Outstanding Young Men of America by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He received numerous awards for his professional and civic achievements and published articles in various professional journals. In 1981 he received the Alumni Achievement Award and granted an Honorary Doctor of Letters Degree LL.D from one of his alma maters. Mr. Goehring is, or has, served on the boards of two hospitals and three private corporations. Mr. Goehring is a Member of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association, the American Hospital Association, the Healthcare Administrators Forum, a member of the Regents' Advisory Committee for the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the Arizona Heart Hospital and serves as a Member of the National Advisory Council of the Healthcare Forum and others. As an active Christian, he is involved in various church activities, particularly at his home church - St. Mark Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona and has served as a member of the board of Directors of the Pacific-Southwest District of the Lutheran Church-Mo. Synod. He served two 3 years terms on the board of Directors of The Lutheran Church Extension Fund, elected as the Vice Chairman and appointed to the Audit Committee, St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Goehring is a founding Director of RepublicBankAz N.A. - a locally owned business bank - serving on the Executive Committee and the Risk Management Committee. Regent Award - ACHE; Honorary Doctor's Degree-LL.D. 1981 (Graduated 1958); Honorary Ranger-National Park Service and Recreational Areas-Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Lake Powell and others; Admiral-The Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. He loves and enjoys his grandchildren, volunteering, golf, RV'ing and working with stained glass. He is survived by his loving wife Judith Goehring; daughters Brenda Johnson, Miriam Bridgman, Lisa Harman; sons Luther A. and Matthew Goehring; stepson Jeffrey Davidson; brothers Irwin and Clayton Goehring; sister Doris Sosa; 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, August 5, 2013, 6:30-8:30 pm at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3030 E.
