Margaret Wendt

Wendt, Margaret
Born in Maqoketa, Iowa on April 22, 1923 (a day which was later designated as Earth Day) passing on December 21, 2013 at age 90. She grew up in Olin, Iowa, a small town of 800, where she met the love of her life. She and Albert were married for 66 and one half years. After high school she went to business school and played basketball, where she was named All American and later inducted into the Iowa Basketball Hall of fame. She graduated from the University of Iowa. Margaret worked for John Deere and Company and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She and Al moved to Phoenix in 1947, where they raised their family of 3 children. Aside from being a wonderful homemaker, she volunteered at the Phoenix Indian Hospital, delivered meals to shut ins, was involved in Cub Scouts and Girls Scouts for her children, was a one-time president of the local Lionesses Club and an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Congregational Church for many years. She enjoyed growing things and passed that love on to her children. We all have many fond memories of trips to the family cabin at Thompson's Draw near Kohl's Ranch and other camping and hunting and fishing trips. She is survived by her three children, Albert Guy Wendt, M.D., James Robert Wendt, M.D., Jeanette Kay Wendt, M.D., grandchildren Geordie, Kate, Emily and Bobby, and great grandchildren Delliah, Nathaniel, Elissa and Gabriella. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Shepherd of the Hills Congregational Church, 5524 E. Lafayette Blvd. 85018.
