Darby, Marjorie Hewette
of Glendale AZ passed away on February 8, 2013, at age 89. Marjorie devoted her life to making the lives of those around her better. Born to Alice Elizabeth and Roy Milford Sutter on August 11, 1923 in Phoenix, she grew up on their dairy farm in Glendale, the oldest of five children. Marjorie graduated from Tolleson High School in 1941 and earned a Bachelor's Degree from the U of A in 1945 in Home Economics education. She married Robert E. Hewette in 1947 and they spent 50 happy years together. Marjorie was a home economics teacher in the Mesa, Glendale, and Phoenix high school districts for over 20 years. In 1969 she earned a master's degree from ASU focused on underserved youth and then taught home economics, child development, and human relations at Carl Hayden High School until 1983. Marjorie was a loving wife and mother, an active member of the First Baptist Church of Phoenix, and a skilled pianist and seamstress. At age 80, six years after Bob's passing, Marjorie married Winston Darby, a fellow church member who had also lost his spouse. They have spent nine wonderful years together, traveling and enjoying time with family and friends, including their Sunday School class and their Symphony group. Marjorie is survived by her husband, four siblings, three children and three step-daughters, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A public visitation will be held on Friday, Feb.15 at the A. L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 West Bethany Home Rd, Phoenix from 6-8 p.m. A private graveside service will take place early Saturday morning. A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb.16 at 11:30 a.m. at Living Streams Church, 7000 N. Central Ave, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Providence Place Care Center, 8641 N. 67th Ave., Glendale, AZ 85302 or the Avon Foundation for Breast Cancer.
