Mike Weibel

Weibel, Michael (Mike)
Michael (Mike) Weibel, 59, passed away on December 29, 2012 from an aggressive form of cancer, surrounded by his family and close friends. Mike was born in Waco, TX, where his father was stationed in the US Air Force. His family moved to the Chico, CA area when Mike was a year old, where Mike spent the rest of his childhood and teen years. Mike joined the Air Force himself at the age of 19, where he spent twenty years involved with pilot training, first as a flight simulator technician for various airframes, and later as a training systems technician for the F-15E. He retired from Luke AFB in 1993 with the rank of Technical Sergeant (E6). Upon military retirement, Mike went to work as a technical trainer on the Apache Longbow Helicopter for McDonnell Douglas in Mesa, AZ, (later The Boeing Company). He left Boeing in 2000, to go to work for Advanced Semiconductor Materials (ASM), a company which develops computer chip-making equipment. There Mike used his expertise to develop and teach curriculum for their Polygon tool for the last 12 years. Mike enjoyed a life-long interest in automobiles and motor sports, and was an avid race car fan and amateur auto mechanic. He also developed an interest in photography, and though he never was a pilot himself, he maintained an interest in aircraft and flying as well. Mike is survived by his wife Maureen, who met while they were both in technical training in the US Air Force. They would have been married 39 years this coming April, father Garey Weibel, mother Marolyn Weibel, daughters Mischa, Brittany and Brianna Weibel, brothers Craig and Dirk Weibel and sister Merri Mattly. Memorial services will be held at 4pm on Saturday, 12 January 19, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W Thunderbird Rd, Peoria, AZ.
