Karegeannes, Peter Nick Sr.
91, passed away 4/4/14 after battling a long illness. He was the son of Nick and Helen Karegeannes and was born in Milwaukee, WI. He was predeceased by brothers Connie and George and sister Charlotte. He was married to June until her death in 1990. Together they had 3 children: Elainie (husband Rudy), Peter Jr (wife Tina) and Stephen (wife Judy). He married Virginia in 1993 and gained two step-children: Cathy (husband Jeff) and Andy (wife Chris). He has 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Peter enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 and was assigned to Navy service. He trained as a corpsman and volunteered to Fleet Marine Force. He served with the 5th Marine Division in the battle for Iwo Jima. He earned the Navy Cross and other medals but declined any notion of being a hero. He believed the true heroes died on the black sands of Iwo Jima. He is a hero to his family and will be missed, loved, and cherished forever. His family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, 4/10/14, from6-8 pm at
Messinger Mortuary at 7601 E Indian School Road in Scottsdale. The Trisagion will be held at 7:00. The funeral will be Friday, 4/11/14, at 10 am at Holy Trinity Cathedral at 1973 E Maryland Ave in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Trinity Cathedral are appreciated.
