Youngman, Raymond Adam
84, of Sun City West, Arizona passed away peacefully on October 1, 2012, one month shy of his 85th birthday. He was born November 6, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Dr. Adam and Lena Widrig Youngman. He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in 1946 and was Commander of the school's first Honor Guard. He enlisted in the United States Army and after serving his country, earned a BA degree from Central College in Fayette, Missouri. He married his childhood sweetheart Adele "Del" Rakey in 1951. He was Chief X-ray technician for Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis before joining Eastman Kodak in 1961 in the Health Science Division. His career with Kodak took him and his family from St. Louis, Missouri to Dallas, Texas in 1968, Rochester, New York in 1974, Danville, California in 1976, back to Rochester, New York in 1984 and after 25 years with Kodak retired and moved to Oakley, California in 1986. In 1992 he and Del moved to Sun City West, Arizona where he would spend the rest of his life. Ray was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend. He loved his family and friends, often entertaining them with his musical talent on the piano and organ. He was an avid golfer and played until he was unable to swing a club. He served many years on his Homeowner's Association Board and volunteered at the Sun City West Visitor Center as a tour guide. His many friends, colleagues, and family will always remember his wonderful wit and dry sense of humor. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Adele "Del" Youngman, his son Craig, daughter-in-law Pam and grandson Cole of Dallas, Texas, son Scott and daughter-in-law Michelle and grandchildren, Eric and Erin, of Oakley California, sisters Margaret Halker and Virginia Scholin and husband Ray Scholin. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers George and Edward. Ray donated his body to the Biological Research Center followed by cremation. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd, Sun City West, AZ.
