Chouinard, Raymond R. Sr.
85, of New York, went home with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. He was born to the late Leon and Irene Chouinard, July 7, 1928, in Salem, MA. Ray graduated from James Madison High School in 1945 and received a degree in Business from Brooklyn College. He married the late Veronica Gillespie in 1950, and they lived together in Brooklyn, NY, before relocating to Staten Island. In 1994, he married the late Margaret Arolla. Ray was a District Manager for AT&T until he retired in 1974. He was an entrepreneur who later opened and managed multiple business including a Fortune 500 company, Elgem Sales & Services. Some of his favorite businesses included The Glenn, Tom's Tavern & The Office. Although he was a successful businessman, Ray's true passion was his faith, family, and helping others. Ray was a United States Marine Corp Veteran, a lifetime member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of Saint Mary's Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and loved to frequent Atlantic City & Las Vegas. Whether in Staten Island or Arizona, you could find Ray outside enjoying a good cigar and conversation. Ray was preceded in death by his children Laura, Robert, Kevin & Ronnie. He is survived by his children: Denise McCullough, Donna Nolde, Ray Chouinard Jr., Maureen Caburis, and Debra Chouinard. He is also survived by his stepsons Adam & Charles Arolla along with his sons-in-law Bill Nolde, Mike Caburis & James Wilson. He was very proud of his nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren who will continue to carry on his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Comprehensive Hospice of Phoenix, AZ. or a hospice of your choice. A viewing will be held at 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Mortuary 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ . A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. Andrews the Apostle, 3450 W. Ray Road, Chandler, AZ followed by the burial at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
