Roy Coppinger stepped on home plate for the last time on August 27th at the age of 81. A native, he was born to Joe and Myrtle in Tolleson, Arizona. Roy attended Tempe High, achieving academic excellence while lettering in 3 sports. He went on to ASU, earning his teaching degree while playing baseball and basketball. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Air Force where he continued his basketball career. A celebrated coach at Coronado High School who touched many lives, he achieved numerous awards including National Coach of The Year. Roy was inducted into several local and National Hall of Fames. A grand man with a gentle spirit who leaves behind a legacy to his wife, children, grandchildren, and all of the athletes whose lives he helped shape. He is survived by his wife Jerry of 61 years, daughters Christy (Mark), Susie (Ray), Caralee (Kendall), grandchildren and great grand children who will cherish his memory in their hearts forever. Services will be held at 3:20 on Friday, Sept. 6th at First Christian Church, 7405 E. McDonald Dr.,
Scottsdale 85250. We encourage you to wear Coronado colors: scarlet and/or navy blue. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Roy's honor to or Coronado High School Baseball. Arrangments entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
