Haugen, Selvin Reidar
83, of Glendale, Arizona passed away on February 1, 2013. Selvin was born June 11, 1929 on a farm in Arne Township near Maddock, North Dakota. He married Gloria Frisbie on September 15th, 1950 and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and retired in 1971 as a Senior Master Sergeant. In addition to his stateside assignments, his tours of duty included the postwar occupation of Germany and military advisor to the Republic of Korea Air Force. After retiring from the military, he worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for 20 years. He enjoyed reading, fishing, walking his dog and talking to everyone he ran across, and spending time at his cabin in northern Arizona. He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three brothers, and his wife. Survivors include his daughter Paula (Paul) Barclay, son John (Linda) Haugen, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church,7205 N. 51st Avenue, Glendale, Arizona on February 23rd at 10:30 am. An internment service for both Selvin and Gloria will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery on February 25th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the American or St. John's Lutheran Church.
