a long time resident of Arizona passed away on January 14th, 2013. Born in Ireland on August 13, 1928, "fortunately at an early age" as he would joke. Educated in Mungret College, Tim was 19 when he came to the United States. His first job was as a file clerk with the Valley National Bank, landing his first Management job in his twenties. He went on to become Executive V.P. of both Valley National Bank and M & I Thunderbird Bank. Tim's career was interrupted only once when he served in Korea as a Master Sergeant in the Infantry, distinguishing himself with two bronze stars
and a purple heart
. He was in demand as a public speaker, winning numerous speaking awards including the American Institute of Banking's national speaking contest. That same year he graduated with honors from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington
, where his thesis has been permanently kept in the school library. Active in many organizations, including chairing the United Way Loaned Executives Program, Board Member of Arizona Counsel on Economic Education, President of the two largest Rotary Club
s in Arizona, Rotarian District Governor, President Elect of America Bankers Association, member of Finance Committee of the Diocese of Phoenix, instructor at the University of Phoenix, Keno Citizen of the Year, Distinguished Citizen Award from the U of A Alumni Association, University of Arizona College of Business nominated him as a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, honored and recognized by the State of Arizona for his statewide contributions and more. You could say Tim's hobby was volunteering. He was natural at sports and could play a mean game of pool, darts, bowling, golf, or pitch in a fast pitch softball game. His hand writing was superb, a lost art, and he could play a variety of keyed musical instruments and the harmonica. He will be remembered for being honest, humble, caring and most of all for his keen sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. Tim is predeceased by his son Michael, and brothers Donald and Con. He is survived by his loving wife, of 58 years, Joan and family which include his children Kaycee (Matt), John, Donald (Margie), and Beverly (Bob), brother, Michael, grandchildren Laura, Steven, Chase, Kylee, Peyton, Abby, Avery, great granddaughter Ava, and extended family in Ireland. Arrangements are entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary. Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church located at 7655 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013. Graveside services will be held in Tucson on Sunday. In lieu of flowers family asks for donations to be made to the Phoenix Rotary 100, 501 E. Osborn Road, Phoenix, AZ. 85012. Good night Uncle Sully.
