Lansberry, Veda M.
92, of Friendship Village, Tempe passed away on August 28, 2013. Veda was born November 19, 1920, at Camas Creek, Idaho, to Jonathan and Annie Hoopes. Raised in Dubois, Idaho, she was athletic as a teenager, playing basketball, softball and tennis. She married Milford A. Lansberry in 1939 and together they published the Ashton Herald for seven years. Veda also ran a spudnut shop where donuts were made from potato flour. In 1953, the family moved to Tempe. Veda worked for the City of Tempe for five years as clerk of the Municipal Court and was employed for 17 years as the church and social reporter
for the Tempe Daily News. She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, her husband and two grandchildren. She is survived by children, Dan (Elaine) Lansberry of Tucson, Susan (John) Tanner of Mesa, Mark (Candace) Lansberry of Las Vegas, Nevada, JoEllen (Phil) Doornbos of Paradise Valley, Lori (Jack) Myrick of Buckeye, and Bill (Bernadette) Lansberry of Chandler; 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 4, at the Tempe First United Methodist Church, 215 E. University Drive, Tempe, at 10 a.m. Tempe Mortuary.
