Thompson, Wilford George Jr., M.D.
88, died September 19, 2013. He was born October 23, 1924, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Wilford, Sr. and Lucille Watson Thompson. He joined the Army
Air Corp in WWII
, and was accepted to medical school. He graduated from medical school at the age of 24, first practiced in Anchorage, Alaska, during the Korean war; practiced family medicine in Wray, Colorado; and then in Mesa from 1963 through 1980. He was very proud of his practice, and felt dearly about all of his patients. He was married to Norma Jean Bradshaw on June 29, 1950. They had 4 children. He served as Chief of Staff of Mesa Lutheran Hospital in 1977. He retired his office practice in 1980, and then spent two years at ASU at the Student Infirmary. He and his wife, Jean, traveled to many places around the world, including Ethiopia, Algeria, Egypt, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Bali, Guam, China, and Bhutan. They retired to Sierra Vista in 1987, and lived there until returning in 2002 to live in Sun Lakes. They celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary in June. He is survived by his wife, Jean, daughters Sue (Mic) Hunt, Janet (Les) Bastman, Peg (Jim) McConnell, son Craig (Rhonda) Thompson, M.D., grandchildren Chris (Michelle) Hunt, Don (Cindy) Nelson, Victoria Nelson, Tyler (Michelle) McConnell, and Jameson McConnell, 14 great-grandchildren, and brother Roger (Vicki) Thompson. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Don, sister Linda Stewert, and one great-grandchild. An open house Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 28th, from 1:00 to 4:00, at Solterra Senior Living, 350 South Alma School Road, Chandler, Arizona 85224.
