William Maurice Mastin, 98, of Gilbert, AZ passed away on June 14, 2013 in Gilbert. Bill came to Arizona from Kansas at the age of 18. He worked for Allison Steel for several years and just prior to WWII he was a Machine Shop Instructor at U of A teaching individuals who would go on to work in the WWll airplane manufacturing facilities. After two years serving in the South Pacific with the Navy, Bill came home to Gilbert and started a family business of Wilbur Flying Service and built the Gilbert Airport. Here he was a flight instructor and crop duster. He was a Councilman, a Photographer and in the mid 1950's became a Rural Mail Carrier and retired after 28 years of service. After retiring Bill's interest turned to Amateur Radio and Genealogy research. Bill is predeceased by his wife, Ethel Wilber Mastin and son, David M. Mastin. He is survived by his daughters, Ann L. Atkins of Chandler, AZ; Betty J. Schatke of Mesa, AZ; Diane M. Howard of Effingham, KS, and Susan P. Smith of Goodrich, TX; and son, Brian D. Mastin (Brenda) of Chandler, AZ, twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. An open house will be held Friday, June 21, 2013 for family and friends from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W. Juniper Ave. Gilbert, AZ.
