Woodson Young Obituary

Woodson Clarke Young, MD, 88, loving husband, father and
grandfather, passed away January 29 2004 "Woody's" devotion to his family, friends and community was the major focus of his life. Born April 24, 1915, in Fort Wayne, IN, he graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1941. He served in the Medical Corps of USN, 1944-47, and in 1954, moved his family to Phoenix, and entered into private practice in internal medicine. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Maricopa County Medical Society, Visiting Nurse Service, Roosevelt Council of the Boy Scouts and served two terms as President of Arizona Blue Shield. He was a member of the staff at St Luke's, St Joseph's, Baptist, John C. Lincoln and Memorial hospitals. From 1970-1972, he served as Chief of the Medical Staff of Good
Samaritan Hospital. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Samaritan Health Services. After retirement in 1984, he continued to serve
the medical community by supervising residents of Good Samaritan, being an on-call physician at ASU Health Clinic, and at Camelback Hospital. He was an active member of Central Methodist Church, and lately North Scottsdale Methodist Church. His commitment to helping others continued with his involvement with Steven's Ministry. The Masonic Lodge, Sertoma International, and Rotary #100 also benefited from his membership. Music, golf, hunting, fishing, and family were important things in his life. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Roberta Butler, children Suzanne Brayer (Win) and Warren H. Young (Carolyn Hall). Surviving grandchildren are Wendy Brayer Hooper (Brett), Jason Brayer, Taylor Clarke Young (Julie Dana), Jack Harris Young, and Meredith Lynn Young. Great grandchildren are: Hannah Jane Young, Jackson Harris Young, Conner Anderson Young, Gavin James Young, and Michael Winston Brayer. Services will be at North Scottsdale Methodist Church at 11:30 am Monday February 2, 2004. Donations can be made to North Scottsdale United Methodist Church.
