Joseph Kahler Obituary

Kahler, Joseph Brett
passed away on May 13, 2014. Joe Kahler, of Chandler, passed away with his wife and daughters by his side on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the age of 56. Joe fought such a courageous battle against appendix cancer for the last 2 1/2 years. Joe was born May 4, 1958 in Lancaster, CA and graduated from Whittier College in 1981. He moved to AZ upon graduating and began working at Garrett (now Honeywell). He obtained his Master's Degree from ASU in 1990. He left Honeywell in 2004 to write a book titled "Out On My Own...Now What?" His book won the Family Choice award. He spoke at High Schools and Colleges across the country helping young people going "Out On Their Own." He returned to the Aerospace industry in 2008 for Wesco Dist. Joe played football and baseball in high school and college and continued playing sports in his adult years. He won numerous awards and championships throughout his life. He coached baseball and softball for years. He had a true love of sports - playing, coaching, and cheering on his favorite AZ teams. He also volunteered at Seton High School and the Knights of Columbus. His quick wit endeared him to his many friends and colleagues. He was always good for a laugh and a smile. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, positive attitude, helping others, teaching and coaching kids, his love of licorice and Mountain Dew and his love of family and friends. He touched others in a way that made you feel like the most important person in the world and you truly felt blessed to be part of his life. Joe put everyone before himself. He is survived by the love of his life for 33 years, Sherrie, his beautiful daughters Candace Campbell (Doug), Amanda and Shelli, his grandkids Edison and Quinn Campbell, his parents Norm and Carolyn, his brother Norm Jr. (Roxanne) and sister Julie Walneuski (Mike), his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Mary McDaniel, his in-laws Eddie and Shirley McDaniel, his awesome nieces and nephews and his many loving friends. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 22nd at Queen of Heaven Mortuary, 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 10:30 am at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 2654 E. Williams Field Road, Gilbert. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Seton Catholic High School athletic programs, 1150 N. Hi Sherrie and Family,
I will miss "little Joey" as he was affectionately known between the two of us. He was such a sweet, respectful and funny man. I enjoyed working with him during our time at Honeywell. I feel sad I was unable to see him before he went off to the angels but I know he is at peace and enjoying his new life with no pain. Sherrie, you and the girls are the real angels for helping Joe thru his difficult time and always being there for him, showing him all kinds of love and support. You all are tremendous people and should be very proud of yourselves for being the definition of FAMILY. I remember the fun we had as a group and my little nickname as "Katy-Joe". Every time he called he would say, Katy Joe, we so cool the way he would say it. Good times.

As I said, I will miss him a lot and will take comfort he is now in a better place.
I know about loss as I lost both my parents in 2012, so the only thing I can tell you is take it one day at a time and let the emotions come.

Take care of the family and my sympathies to everyone. If you ever need anything, please contact me.

Joe was a great guy, and will always be remembered as the Horse Shoe King. Now, he will be playing horse shoes with the King, himself.

Joe and Sherrie were my daughter's first job. Tracy got to know them and wanted me to pass that on. We are so very sorry for Joe's loss but he will always be remembered. Love ya Joe, God speed. Are you dancing with the dogs at the Rainbow Bridge??? Yes you are. Love, Cathie Morse and Tracy Kennedy.
