Elkins, Gail Ann (Millman)
68, of Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly of Hammond, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 after a long fight with brain cancer. She was born on November 6, 1945 to George and Leona Millman. Along with younger sister, Virginia, the Millman family shared a Norman Rockwell-like life that truly painted a picture of faith, devotion, commitment, humor, service to their community and, above all, love for family and friends. After attending Indiana University, Gail married Alan Elkins on September 7, 1968. They lived outside of Chicago and enjoyed nearby family and friends. An offer to move to Scottsdale, AZ in the summer of 1979, however, was an adventure they couldn't refuse. Alan and Gail settled their young family in a ranch home on a cul-de-sac that still remains the family home today. They raised their two children in that loving nurturing home and devoted their time to countless clubs and school affiliated activities. Through the years of volunteering they became very active in supporting the Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation and worked for years at the annual golf tournament. In September, they celebrated forty-five years of marriage with their children and grandchildren in one of their favorite spots, Laguna Beach. The family made many trips to Laguna through the years; attending the Pageant of the Masters, antiquing and strolling through shops with Alan's beloved uncle, and spending time on the beach. It was always a cherished part of the year. Gail's warm affectionate smile, charm, thoughtfulness, compassionate heart, and grace made everyone at ease. She dressed with a sense of style and had impeccable taste. She always found the perfect gifts and created the most endearing holiday traditions. She was at her core a devoted wife, loving mother, true friend, and confidante. She was adored by all. When her grandchildren were born she became simply "G.G." - Grandma Gail. Having them a part of her life was pure joy. They cherished her equally. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leona Millman, which she took great care of for years, and her sister Virginia Feil. She is survived by her husband Alan Elkins, two children: Alison Hammond of Phoenix, AZ (Kent Hammond) and Ross Elkins of Scottsdale, AZ (Jenny Elkins) and three grandchildren, Arden, Audrey and George Hammond. Thank you to the exceptional doctors, nurses and staff at Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph's Hospital and Sherman Hospice Home for their wonderful care and compassion. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Barrow Neurological Institute, 350 W.
