Rodgers, George Hugh
age 84, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on August 17, 2012. He was born on October 30, 1927 in Charlotte, NC to Bonar Day and Velma Flowe Rodgers. He is preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Mary Stuart Rodgers and Mary Wheeler Rodgers, two children, Susan Frances Rodgers and Eric Scott Rodgers and his brother, Nisbet Pharr Rodgers. His thoughtful and loving ways will be missed deeply by his wife, Marian Taylor Rodgers, daughters, Kristen Rodgers of Tempe, AZ and Carla Kentera of Tucson, AZ; three step-children, Paul Taylor of Gilbert, AZ, Daniel Taylor of Aurora, IL, and Karen Mason of Burlington, KY, 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, his brother, B.D. Rodgers of Charlotte, NC, his sister, Flowe Price of Winston-Salem, NC, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He entered the U.S. Army at age 18 and served in Germany for three years. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an A.B. degree in Economics and Master of Regional Planning degree. He served as City Planning Director in Greenville, SC; Lodi CA; San Rafael, CA; and Tempe, AZ. After returning to college at Arizona State University in 1971, he was awarded Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees in 1974. He maintained a private law office in Tempe and Mesa since 1975. He was a former president of the East Valley Bar Association, Tempe Community Council and Tempe Republican Men's Club and was active for many years in Grace Community Church and Arizona Community Church in Tempe. Memorial service will be held at Arizona Community Church, 9325 South Rural Road, Tempe on a date to be determined.
