Suzie Hawkins Obituary

Hawkins, Suzie Bernard
77 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away peacefully on October 27th. Suzie was born on November 25th 1934 in Moline Illinois "Home of John Deere". She was raised by her Parents, George and Hazel "Nanny" Bernard on Rock River assisting with the family restaurant, Poplar Grove. She attended both Moline and Hollywood High schools where she started her long and successful professional dance career with her brother John Bernard. Suzie became an instructor for the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists, living and traveling as a Choreographer in Washington DC, Los Angeles, Pittsburg, Las Vegas and Bar Harbor, Maine. She moved on to become a full time dancer with the "June Taylor Dancers" supporting the Jackie Gleason Show. Her career peaked when she moved to New York City and accepted a position with the "Rockettes" performing at Radio City Music Hall. She danced in hundreds of Rockette productions including many years of the Annual Christmas Spectacular and The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. When her dance career slowed down, she moved to Phoenix, AZ. in 1962. Suzie became an avid golfer, where she met her husband, Lynn K. Hawkins M.D. on the course of Orange Tree Country Club. Lynn introduced her to the beautiful outdoors of Arizona and she was able to mount several large trophies her husband was never able to or were much larger than the ones he had obtained. Suzie was a dedicated volunteer spending many years working with the Arizona Heart Ball, Scottsdale Medical Wives Association, Villa Ocotillo Assisted Living Center, Hopi Elementary PTA, and as the Head Orange Slice Administrator for the Arcadia Sharks. She was an exclusive member of the Heritage Hills "Walkers and Talkers" Club where she was accompanied by her beloved friends and dogs, Stanley and Buddy. She was a very compassionate and caring person loved by all Friends and Family. Suzie fought a long and unfair battle with Kidney Disease, making all of her appointments to "DD". Our family will always keep all dialysis patients in our hearts and thoughts. Suzie is survived by her brother John Bernard, son Johnny Hawkins, nephews Rich, Ron and John Bernard and close extended family Scott (Cara) Hawkins, Kevin (Kristine) Hawkins, Kellie (Frank) Adams and their children Tyler, Cassidy, Katelyn, Matthew, Kyle and Dylan. We will be celebrating Suzie's Life at the family home on Saturday November 10th from 12 noon to 5pm. For more information, directions and condolences please contact Jhaw
